ABOUT HOME BIRTH
Home birth has been repeatedly shown to be a safe option for healthy, low-risk mothers. Women choose home birth for many reasons, including:
  • They want to be able to choose who is with them during labor and birth
  • They want to be able to walk around, eat and drink when they're in labor
  • They want the best possible chance of having an unmedicated vaginal birth
  • They want to give birth with a care provider they know
Giving birth with a home birth midwife means getting exactly the healthcare you need - and nothing more. No unnecessary procedures or policies, just the midwife who you've come to know throughout your prenatal care, monitoring mother and baby's health and guiding you through your birth. Home birth midwives are skilled in non-invasive, natural techniques of labor and delivery management that draw on both modern science and traditional wisdom. Midwives support their clients' informed decisions regarding all healthcare in pregnancy and birth.  If advanced care is needed, home birth midwives facilitate hospital transfer.

Many of these practices are built-in to home birth midwifery care, like remaining physically active in labor and immediate contact with the baby after birth. However, more and more hospital-based providers are recognizing the value of these evidence-based practices and working to offer that to moms giving birth in the hospital as well.
